Writing a persuasive CV



Writing a good, persuasive CV is one of the most important parts of trying to get a job. When two applicants are evenly matched, a well written CV can be the deciding factor in tipping the balance in favour of one applicant over another.

A CV shouldn't be too long. It should consist of the reasons that you are suitable for the job, including details of past experience. This should be a combination of notable achievements at work and in education. The CV should also make an immediate impact on the prospective employer.

Don't fail to create your CV in a structured way , as it should be easy on the eye. First of all, use a headline on your CV. This should be the name of the position that you are applying for.

Next, write your Personal Profile Statement , describing what skills make you an outstanding applicant. Though you should sell yourself, don't overdo things by coming across as just too keen. List your attributes that are relevant to the job that you are applying for.

Avoid using long paragraphs, punchy is preferable. To make your qualifications stand out these should be arranged in a list, preferably in bulleted form. This will then make your skills, achievements and education jump out at the person who is reading your CV.

Never rush creating your CV , as your CV should consist of high points of your career going back, preferably, up to 15 years. Focus on what you have brought to your previous jobs and how those businesses have benefited from your expertise.

Don't sell yourself short. The CV needs to be something that underlines the outstanding moments of your career, rather than just what you are capable of. Look back at how you used your capabilities and give examples of where you really excelled yourself. A prospective employer will be expecting you to be capable of doing the work in the job that you apply for, but he or she will also be looking for something that makes you stand apart from the rest of the applicants.

Achievements: go through what you consider are your most important achievements and put those at the beginning of your CV. Your most recent jobs and education should be listed first. Some applicants will have to decide whether education or job experience is the most important element of the CV, choose wisely.

Avoid using a template. Some other applicants will probably use one, so producing a CV that seems more unique will help to make more of an impact on a prospective an employer. It will give the impression that you have made more of an effort to create your CV.

Make sure that you can send your CV as an attachment and that the attachment's contents are easily viewable. This can be done by sending the CV to friends and by asking them if they can read it okay.

Once you are happy all these points are covered you should start the application process. Now where do you want to work? Do you want a career in the public or the private sector? Both are valid choices. Private companies are perhaps more easy to contact directly just by sending your new impressive CV (after following our tips of course).
