3D Printed Brains Help Train Future Neurosurgeons

3D printed brains are creating unbelievably realistic models for students to practice neurosurgery on in Malaysia. The innovative idea comes from University of Malaysia professor and surgeon Vicknes Waran.

The 3D models emulate the brain and simulate the various layers of the organ a surgeon would encounter during an operation. This technique for learning surgery is intricate for students because it is literally a hands-on approach where they can navigate fragile tissues of the brain, discover how much pressure to use during surgery and learn what it feels like to break a membrane.

While it may not fully prepare someone for real brain surgery, it is certainly an idea that will go a long way in prepping students for what to expect during neurosurgery.
